Chelsea Officially Ties Wesley Fofana for Seven Years

Fofana said he wanted to make a big contribution to Chelsea by donating many trophies this season.

Chelsea management officially announced the recruitment of young defender Wesley Fofana, Wednesday (31/8) evening WIB, with a contract duration of seven years. Fofana has the opportunity to make his debut against West Ham United this weekend.

Chelsea have long been interested in Fofana after they sold Julse Kunde to Barcelona. But it was not easy for Chelsea to get Fofana, because they negotiated for several weeks, and had made four offers.

Now Chelsea can breathe a sigh of relief after they managed to get the signature of this 21-year-old player. Chelsea reportedly had to spend up to £ 70 million to bring in Fofana.

"Wesley Fofana is now a Chelsea player having today completed a move from Leicester City, and has signed a seven-year contract with the Blues," the club said in a statement.

"Being one of the most highly rated young players in the Premier League, Fofana has come to strengthen Thomas Tuchel's defense in the 2022/23 season, following the arrivals of Kalidou Koulibaly and Marc Cucurella at the start of the summer."

Fofana expressed his joy at joining the Blues. According to the Frenchman, playing for Chelsea is his dream as a footballer, and is determined to help the team win many titles.

“The last two days were very big days for me, and I am very happy. I trained this morning with the team, and it was a dream for me. I'm very excited to start playing soon," said Fofana.

"I'm here to win trophies, be it Champions League, Premier League, FA Cup, Carabao Cup, everything. I came here to win, and the club is built to win trophies. So I'm here to continue it."

Fofana came to the Premier League with an impressive game with Saint-Etienne. He once won the title as Leicester's best young player in the 2020/21 season. Despite being injured last season, Fofana's performance has not decreased.

“Wesley is a very promising defender, and has proven his quality in the Premier League at a young age. We are delighted to be able to bring one of Europe's most exciting talents to Chelsea, and further strengthen our squad area, both for this season and in the future," said club chairman Todd Boehly.
