AS Roma are lucky enough to avoid three consecutive defeats

AS Roma can breathe a sigh of relief. After two consecutive defeats, Roma finally won the match in week 6 of the 2022/2023 Italian League.

Roma beat host Empoli with a score of 2-1 at the Stadio Carlo Castellani, Tuesday (13/9/2022) early morning hrs. Goals from Tammy Abraham and Paulo Dybala were enough to beat Filippo Bandinelli's single goal.

This match was actually very tight. Empoli who had never won did not choose only to defend, but also to attack all out.

That's the reason AS Roma manager Jose Mourinho considers this match lucky enough to be won. The hosts put up a tight fight from start to finish.

Look good

Roma had seven shots on target from a total of 13 shots fired. However, goalkeeper Guglielma Vicario performed well by making five saves.

Mourinho even mentioned that the goalkeeper acted like the best goalkeeper in the world. It's not easy for the players to score goals.

"To score against their goalkeeper tonight is not a miracle. He looks like the best goalkeeper in the world," said Mou in his post-match press conference.

Hard to Fight

Overall, Empoli is also not an easy opponent. They dominated the game to take their first win of the season.

Empoli controlled 53 percent of possession. Paolo Zanetti's squad also managed to release 20 shots even though only one went in.

"We have big ambitions tonight to win. So congratulations to Zanetti, they have a difficult team to play against," said Mou.

Don't want to lose three times

Roma previously swallowed two consecutive defeats. Each in the Europa League when they lost 1-2 in the away match against Ludogorets, previously losing 0-4 to Udinese in the Italian League continued.

So Mou is very happy with this win. He felt the team's determination not to lose for the third time in a row was too great, so he could get three points.

"After we lost three points, it was important for us to win again. Tonight we refused to lose again; we don't want to make three defeats in a row."
