Confessing Antoine Griezmann at Atletico Madrid: Entering the 60th minute, can't be more than 45 minutes

Antoine Griezmann has been in quite a strange situation this season. He didn't get much playing time, but he proved he could still help Atletico Madrid.

Griezmann's case began to be read after several matches ran in the 2022/23 season. Keep in mind, Griezmann is now on loan from Barcelona.

According to reports circulating, there is a special clause listed in Griezmann's loan contract. The clause says Atletico will have to pay Griezmann's €40 million fee if the player appears for more than half of the total available minutes.

Griezmann's unique clause

The clause in Griezmann's loan contract is actually Barca's way of ensuring that they can sell the player outright at the end of the season.

For example, in 90 minutes of a match, this clause is only calculated if Griezmann plays 45 minutes. The number of minutes played is then accumulated from each Griezmann appearance until the end of the season.

Well, to work around this, so far Diego Simeone has not played Griezmann in full. The French winger always comes on in the 60th minute, maxing out the final 30 minutes on the pitch, so his clause doesn't count.

Griezmann said

This unique situation is certainly difficult for Griezmann personally. His playing minutes are reduced, his development is hampered. However, Griezmann personally admitted that he was quite satisfied.

"That's how it is, the decision is beyond my influence. I'm grateful to be able to play here. My family is happy," Griezmann said.

"Of course I want more minutes, but I will give everything with the minutes I have."

"I'm happy here and I just want to play here, give everything for the club, for Cholo and for the fans."
