Real Madrid Defensively Against Atletico? That's true!

Real Madrid appeared tough to beat rivals Atletico Madrid in a fierce duel El Derbi Madrileno, Monday (19/9/2022) early morning hrs. El Real won with a narrow score of 2-1.

The victory was even more special because it was won at the headquarters of the opposing team, Wanda Metropolitano. Madrid appeared tough in the midst of pressure from the host fans.

Interestingly, the game did not go easy for Carlo Ancelotti's troops. Madrid were 2-0 up in the first half, but then lowered the tempo in the second half and allowed the opposition to attack.

Ancelotti also admitted that his team played defensively in yesterday's match. What does it mean?

Madrid play passive? Yes indeed!

Madrid didn't get many chances, but they were very effective. Two chances resulted in two goals to win the game and wrap up the three points.

Therefore, after the match there was a slanted issue that Madrid only played defensively at Atletico's cage. Interestingly, Ancelotti did not argue.

"Yes, we did defend with a low defensive line and we used to do it. We avoided the threat of Griezmann and Joao Felix's counter-attacks," said Ancelotti.

"The low defensive line we used proved to be able to control them. If Simeone mentions us playing defensively, I can only thank you, it's a compliment."

Not yet stable

The win keeps Madrid's perfect run, 18 points from 6 games, still perfect. However, Ancelotti insists that there will still be surprises this season.

"Barcelona are going very well, we are going well, Atletico lost to us," Ancelotti continued.

"This season has been very strange, you never know what will happen after the World Cup. What Atletico are going through now might happen to us."

"The league will be more competitive this season," he concluded.
