Previously, an incident occurred in the match between Arema FC and Persebaya Surabaya at the Kanjuruhan Stadium, Malang Regency, Saturday (01/10) night. More than a hundred supporters died as a result of being trampled on and short of breath while trying to avoid the tear gas fired by security forces at the stands. In the incident, two security personnel were also killed.
This incident began with a pitch invasion action by a group of Arema supporters to express their frustration after their favorite team lost by a score of 2-3 against Persebaya Surabaya.
