Mexico Official Squad for the World Cup 2022: Raul Jimenez Remains Called Despite Few Minutes Playing

49erssports.com -
The Mexican national team has released the official squad that will take them to the 2022 World Cup. Of the 26 players registered, Raul Jimenez's call was one of the surprises.

The 31-year-old player has minimal playing minutes with Wolverhampton. Throughout this season, Jimenez has only played four times.

Disturbing injury problems made him more often than not on the gridiron. Jimenez even flew to Mexico to recover for about three weeks.

Therefore, Mexican fans are wondering about this decision. The reason is, Mexico could have called Javier Hernandez, who, although he is already 34 years old, is still playing regularly at the LA Galaxy.

The only Premier League Player

Even so, Jimenez still proved to be a sharp player belonging to Mexico. Of the 96 matches he has played, he has scored 26 goals.

Jimenez's call made him the only Premier League player in the Mexican squad. His other colleagues mostly play on the American continent.

Only a handful of players play for big teams. Among them are Hirving Lozano (Napoli), Edson Alvarez and Jorgen Sanchez (Ajax Amsterdam), and Erick Gutierrez (PSV Eindhoven).
