Bruno Fernandes was angry that he failed to join Tottenham

Manchester United midfielder Bruno Fernandes admits he was angry at his failure to join Tottenham in 2019. Because, at that time Fernandes really wanted a career in the Premier League.

Fernandes showed a very impressive performance in the Portuguese League with Sporting CP. His name was then associated with a number of European giants.

Manchester United managed to recruit Fernandes in January 2020 with a fund of 47 million pounds. The Portuguese star then transformed into a mainstay player for the Red Devils.

Tottenham offer

Fernandes has a desire to play in the Premier League. In 2019, Tottenham became the club most seriously pursuing his signature.

"Obviously I want to go to the Premier League. The manager, Mauricio Pochettino, was the one who wanted me there," Fernandes told The Athletic.

"It was a good offer but Sporting tried their best to keep me.

Fernandes Angry

The president of Sporting CP has finally canceled negotiations with Tottenham. This made Fernandes very angry because his desire to have a career in the Premier League was canceled.

"The president (Frederico Varandas) spoke to me but he spoke to me on the wrong day," he continued.

"It was the day after they decided to turn down the offer from Tottenham and I was furious. Luckily for me, the manager (Marcel Keizer) was the right person at the right time.

"In early January my agent said, 'You don't have to worry, because every time I bring you a club it will be a dream club for you'. He knows that my dream club is Man United."

Role of Ole

Fernandes finally came to the Premier League by joining Manchester United. Fernandes has revealed that former manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer played an important role in his move to Old Trafford.

"Ole was a big part of that because he really went to see my game," he added.

"On my first day he [Solskjaer] said to me, 'Be yourself. I know what you are capable of with the ball, but I also want you to be a leader like you were at Sporting.'"
