French defender Jules Kunde hinted that he was more impressed by Xavi's 'seduction' than Thomas Tuchel and that's why he turned down Chelsea and joined Barcelona.
Kunde was previously the main pillar of Sevilla's defense. His straightforward appearance at the back made him the target of a number of clubs.
Among them is Chelsea. The Blues are even said to be very serious about bringing Kunde to Stamford Bridge.
But in the end Kunde canceled to Chelsea. He actually moved closer to Barcelona.
Kounde Mission in Barcelona
Jules Kunde said he was happy to join a club at the level of Barcelona. But he also understands that the Blaugrana have been going through some tough times lately.
That's why he is determined to play optimally in every game. Because he hopes to help Barcelona rise and win many titles.
"Firstly, I arrived at a big club, which has known good times and lately has had less of them. I came to a project that I don't call a reconstruction, because we already have a competitive team, but a rebound," he told L'Equipe, as reported by Sport.
"I'm interested in being part of this new wave, seeking titles and putting Barca back where it belongs, among the best."
Conversation with Xavi
Jules Kunde revealed, before deciding to move to Barcelona, he had communicated with Xavi. In that moment he admitted that he was impressed with the knowledge and philosophy of the coach about football.
But there is something more impressive. Kounde says Xavi already has clear plans for him at Camp Nou.
"Then there was a conversation with the coach. We talked about football, especially. I felt real confidence, real knowledge of my game and my qualities."
“When I spoke to him [Xavi], he told me that my qualities match his game plan, starting from the back, playing high, using my qualities of pace and anticipation. He also wants an aggressive team: we are one of the teams that press high, run the most."
Had a chance to talk to Tuchel too
But Jules Kunde also admitted that he had opened the door to a transfer to Chelsea. In fact, he admitted that he had also communicated with Thomas Tuchel.
However, the conversation with Tuchel didn't seem very memorable to Kounde. In the end he chose to join Barcelona.
"I spoke with Tuchel, and I also felt that he wanted me to come [to Chelsea], but I prefer Xavi's speech," admitted Kounde.
