Trent Alexander-Arlond branded the class of a championship player

49erssports.com - Former Chelsea defender Frank Lebouef criticized Trent Alexander-Arnold's defensive qualities. Leboeuf claims the Liverpool right-back's defensive method is very bad.

Alexander-Arnold is often labeled as the best right-back in the Premier League. The 23-year-old has become the first choice in Liverpool's starting XI.

Alexander-Arnold is also known as the king of assists. He has contributed 62 assists from 235 appearances in all competitions for Liverpool.

Behind his impressive performance, Alexander-Arnold's defensive style is often questioned. That includes when Liverpool humiliated Napoli with a score of 1-4 in the Champions League.

How to survive Alexander-Arnold

Leboeuf is the latest figure to criticize Alexander-Arnold's defensive qualities. He considered the England international weak in defense.

"Look at Trent Alexander-Arnold. I like the player, his offensive qualities. But defensively he is at the level of a Championship player," Leboeuf told the Journal de Dimanche.

Only Work with Klopp's System

Alexander-Arnold's ability to help the team in the attacking phase is unquestionable. Leboeuf assessed that the system applied by Klopp at Liverpool could bring out the best in his ability.

"Only Klopp's system is working for him. When it's not working as well as this season, all you see is how lacking in defence," he continued.

"I wanted to take him with me to understand the basics. I would tell him: 'Turn your head and look behind you, it gets better'".
