Bayern Munich's six perfect matches in the group phase feel useless

49erssports.com - Bayern Munich's perfect achievement in the 2022/2023 Champions League group stage is indeed special. However, that achievement felt useless when he met Paris Saint-Germain in the round of 16.

The first leg match will be held at the Parc de Princess, France, PSG's headquarters (15/2/2023). New Munich will host the 2nd leg which takes place at the Allianz Arena, Germany (8/3/2023).

Munich and PSG are both unbeaten from six matches in the group stage. The difference, Munich won six times, while PSG won four times and drew twice.

Mighty Munich won Group C. PSG itself should have won Group H, but in the last match Benfica overtook it with the same points. Benfica won the group after winning on goal difference.

Quality Runner-up

The draw made Bayern Munich manager, Julian Nagelsmann confused. According to him, the perfect results achieved by the team were useless because they could not get anything.

This is because the teams are aiming for the status of group winners so as not to meet strong teams from other groups who generally also become group winners. However, the unpredictable dynamics in Group H caused Munich to be unlucky.

"The perfect group phase seems useless," he said at an official press conference.

Fight World Class Players

The condition is increasingly oppressive for Munich because PSG is currently inhabited by world-class players. The trident of Lionel Messi, Neymar, and Kylian Mbappe is also hot.

That hasn't been added to the players in midfield, like Marco Verratti who is also classy. Nagelsmann predicts the duel between the two teams will be very tight.

"We will face a team that has a lot of world-class players, like we have at the moment," he said.
